Massimo Tumolo is GenAI Innovation Lead at ABN AMRO, where he leads the discovery, development, rollout, and scaling of Generative AI solutions in a highly regulated environment. He combines a background in Software Engineering and Innovation with hands-on product leadership experience.
Over his career, Massimo has developed AI solutions and led initiatives from concept to global scale — most notably Predictive Maintenance services to reduce unplanned downtime. More recently, he scaled a GenAI product within ABN AMRO that delivers 30–35% time savings in processes now adopted by over 700 employees.
He focuses on turning emerging technologies into practical, scalable solutions by working closely across business and technology teams. He is particularly interested in how large organisations can drive real transformation from within — not through pilots, but through products that stick.
Outside of work, he is passionate about food, fitness, and animal welfare.
What does it actually take to move AI from prototype to production inside a major bank? In this fireside chat, Massimo shares what worked, what didn't, and what most organisations get wrong when they try to scale GenAI at enterprise level.
The conversation goes beyond the technology — into the human side of transformation: how to bring teams along, how to manage expectations in a regulated environment, and how to build something people genuinely adopt rather than tolerate.
An honest look at the gap between AI hype and AI reality, from someone who has navigated it from the inside.
