Lex Keukens is a lawyer and partner at TeekensKarstens advocaten notarissen, where he leads the technology team at the Amsterdam office. His practice focuses on advising large international companies, mid-sized businesses, and start-ups and scale-ups on the deployment and protection of new technologies that make an impact — with a particular focus on AI and quantum computing.
Lex is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and provides internal and external training on AI and cybersecurity law. He is also involved as legal advisor in an EU Commission initiative called LLMs4EU — a large consortium project working to develop an LLM trained on European data and fully compliant with European laws and regulations. The project sits at the heart of one of Europe's defining questions: can we build AI infrastructure that is both competitive and sovereign?
Within TeekensKarstens, Lex leads the internal project team responsible for deploying AI responsibly in the firm's own legal practice — not just advising clients on how to navigate the AI Act, but applying that thinking from the inside. At ORAM Next Gen Festival, he brings the legal and regulatory dimension to the fireside chat on building the future: what it takes to move fast without losing sight of the rules that will determine who gets to play.
Three young professionals, three transitions — AI inside a regulated bank, the energy and heat transition, and the AI Act as it moves from paper into practice. All three are close to the front line of change most organisations are still figuring out how to handle.
This isn't a panel about what's holding progress back. It's a fireside chat — the kind of honest conversation that only happens once the framework slides are gone. What does it actually feel like to carry responsibility before you feel ready for it? Where have you doubted yourself, and what got you through it? What's a moment you got it wrong, and what did it teach you?
Three different fields, but the same human questions underneath: how do you stay grounded when you're moving faster than the people around you expect? What do you tell yourself on the days it doesn't feel like enough?
An open, personal conversation between three people who are figuring this out in real time — not because they have it all worked out, but because they're honest about what it takes.
What would you tell the person one step behind you — not about the rules, but about how it feels?
