Dr. Ir. Hamed Ali Diab Montero is a Scientist Innovator and Scientific Lead of the Data Innovation Team at TNO within the Geological Survey of the Netherlands. He specialises in applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data assimilation to subsurface and geoscientific data.
At TNO, he leads research focused on improving data-driven workflows, including automation of data processing and interpretation of geological and geophysical information. He holds a PhD in Applied Earth Sciences from TU Delft and has a strong international background in geophysics and engineering.
Additionally, he contributes to advancing the use of AI across TNO by supporting collaboration and innovation in geoscience and energy-related domains.
AI is changing not only how organisations work, but also how countries and regions compete. The Netherlands has everything it needs to maintain a leading position in Europe — but only if government, business and knowledge institutions move forward together.
After a brief introduction on the strategic significance of AI and the need for collaboration, we explore five critical challenges for a strong Dutch AI ecosystem: compute, talent, data, capital and AI adoption. Participants then work in small groups on one of these themes, mapping out the key bottlenecks and opportunities and formulating concrete actions for the next 100 days.
We close in plenary by bringing the outcomes together and identifying which initiatives can be advanced collectively.
